Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.47%

Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Gold, Materials and Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.47%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Appen Ltd (ASX:APX), which rose 8.29% or 0.18 points to trade at 2.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) added 6.02% or 0.13 points to end at 2.29 and South32 Ltd (ASX:S32) was up 4.17% or 0.15 points to 3.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB), which fell 34.57% or 2.43 points to trade at 4.60 at the close. Cromwell Property Group (ASX:CMW) declined 5.17% or 0.02 points to end at 0.41 and TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX:TPG) was down 4.13% or 0.21 points to 4.88.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 541 to 539 and 372 ended unchanged.

Shares in Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) rose to 52-week highs; up 8.29% or 0.18 to 2.35. Shares in Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) fell to 3-years lows; down 34.57% or 2.43 to 4.60. Shares in Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) rose to 52-week highs; rising 6.02% or 0.13 to 2.29.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.58% to 12.03.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.03% or 0.70 to $2,677.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.99% or 0.75 to hit $74.81 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.78 to trade at $78.26 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 0.67, while AUD/JPY rose 0.12% to 100.58.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 102.81.
