Investing.com — McDonald’s fell in afterhours trading Tuesday after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said an E. coli outbreak linked to the McDonald’s quarter pounders burgers has led one death and 10 hospitalizations across multiple states.

McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) fell 9% in recent afterhours trading following the news.

“Most sick people are reporting eating Quarter Pounder hamburgers from McDonald’s,” the CDC said Tuesday, noting that as many as 49 cases had been identified across 10 states.

McDonald’s has pulled ingredients for these burgers, and they won’t be available for sale in some states, the agency added.
